Term 4 and the club is well underway growing pollinator herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables.
The seedlings we planted before the holidays took and we are so excited to see cosmos and marigold flowers bloom (sunflowers on the way!) as well as kale, lettuce and sage and oregano thriving - so…we have some produce for the canteen and our stall already! A huge THANK YOU to the Vasquez-Riquett family who generously donated 3 bags of garden soil and digging tools for the kids - your donation has allowed us to plant another bed and start working on other areas.
This week we planted green bean seeds and cleared the canteen garden bed to create a kitchen garden and strawberry patch - students never fail to be enthusiastic to join, get their hands dirty, dig, lift and be very helpful! Also got a taste of bush mint. Thanks also to Nicky Schapowal for her ongoing commitment to the garden club!
We are considering moving the Bexhill front gate stall to the pick up area (thanks to Eloise James for the suggestion!) so please contact Fiona if you are able to help.
VEGETABLE SEEDLING OR SEED DONATIONS WELCOME! We would love some parsley, lettuce, rocket, cucumber, corn so we can continue planting in preparation for summer.
HAVE AN OLD ESKY YOU AREN’T USING ANYMORE? We’d love one to use for selling produce at our front stall
TOOLS STILL NEEDED - wheelbarrow, pitchfork, rake and pick if anyone can spare.
Students from each class come to the garden on Wednesday afternoons to dig, plant, weed, water, maintain and harvest edible produce and more. If you are interested in helping with the Garden Club, Nicky and Fiona meet 12 or 1pm Wednesdays for working bee and students join 2:15-3:15pm (require you to complete a Working with Children Check), please contact Fiona at fionalberry@gmail.com. All are welcome!
